PR-116-2023

(10 October 2023, Singapore) Six (6) marriage ceremonies between Filipino couples were solemnized at the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore in September, the highest in a single month since December 2019. Since the start of 2023, a total of 20 marriage ceremonies have been officiated at the Sentro Rizal.

“We are pleased that the Embassy, even at our temporary location, is increasingly becoming a preferred venue for important events for our kababayans here in Singapore. The doors of the Embassy are open for the Filipino community’s special occasions such as this,” remarked Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, Mr. Medardo G. Macaraig.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore takes the opportunity to invite all Filipino couples to consider holding their marriage ceremonies at the Embassy premises. As part of the roster of its consular services, Embassy officials are authorized to officiate civil marriages between two eligible Filipino citizens. Named after the Philippine’s National Hero, Dr. Jose RIzal, the cultural significance of Sentro Rizal provides a unique backdrop and intimate setting for Filipino couples to exchange their vows and celebrate their lasting union with family and loved ones.

Now with 37 sites all over the world, Sentro Rizal, created by virtue of the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, is the Philippines’ cultural center abroad dedicated to promoting Philippine culture, arts, and languages. Since its establishment in 2017, Sentro Rizal Singapore and Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) have implemented various programs to implement this mandate, including bringing in Philippine indigenous weaves and accessories, Filipino music, arts, and movies, conducting seminars on Philippine languages, and familiarization tours for students in Singapore.

In partnership with the NCCA, the Embassy’s Cultural Section intends to launch more activities in the near future, including a Rizal Heritage Tour and digitalization of the Sentro Rizal library. Further, to promote public access to this cultural hub, Sentro Rizal Singapore will be stationed at the consular area of the Philippine Embassy at Nassim Road, the reconstruction of which is expected to be completed in 2025.
