Nine (9) Filipino start-ups join CommunicAsia 2016

01 June 2016-The Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ICT Office), led the Philippine delegation of Philippine start-up companies that exhibited in Singapore’s CommunicAsia 2016, an annual high-profile exhibition of leading edge ICT technologies and services.  Their participation in this year’s exhibit was spearheaded by the DOST-ICT Office, with assistance from the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Singapore of the Philippine Embassy. The last time the Philippines participated in the annual event was in 2014.

The Philippines was one of the 200 exhibitors from 50 countries showcasing cutting edge ICT products and services ranging from 3D Printing, 5G/4G/LTE, Augmented Reality and Innovations, Content Delivery Network (CDN), embedded technology, infrastructure & network solutions, internet of things), IPTV(Internet Protocol television),  M2M (machine to machine), mobile cloud, satellite communications and services, mobile broadband devices, smart home devises and systems, sustainable ICT, wearables & Apps, wireless technologies, among others.

Mr. Monchito B. Ibrahim, Deputy Executive Director of the DOST-ICT Office led the Philippine delegation that comprised nine (9) start-ups:  1) Advanced World Solutions (leading BPO/ITO Service providing customized software development, hardware/software testing and IT maintenance); 2) Giftit (an online gift marketplace for merchants and charity foundations); 3) Good Meal Hunting (an online marketplace for home-based cooks); 4) InnoVantage (developed the software Cogito, a cloud tool that will allow companies to automate simple and adhoc business processes; 5) Launchgarage (a technology innovation hub in Manila that provides a venue for open collaboration, knowledge sharing, events and acceleration for IT start-ups; 6) Medifi (a cloud-based telemedicine platform that allows medical providers with the necessary tools to provide personalized experience to patients); 7) Orchestrack (a real-time broadcast media monitoring platform that caters to advertisers, media agencies and networks for tracking, verification and competitive reporting of advertising on radio, TV and streaming media); 8) Proudcloud (an agile software engineering firm that serves the unique requirements of tech start-ups around the world); and 9) Ticketbase (an easy to use ticketing platform where users can create and manage their own events page).

Poised to overtake overseas remittances by 2020, the IT-BPO sector, is one of the most lucrative and fastest growing industries in the Philippines.  By 2016, the IT-BPO industry is projected to generate 1.3 million new jobs, with a 17 percent annual growth rate. END
