(20 June 2022, Singapore) – The introduction of the officers and founding members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (PhilChamSG) was one of the highlights during the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 15 June 2022 at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Filipino business leaders in Singapore, under the initiative and guidance of Ambassador Joseph del Mar Yap, started consolidating their efforts to set up the Philippines’ own chamber of commerce. After some initial challenges, PhilChamSG was finally registered with the Singapore Registry of Societies (ROS) on 29 April 2022. The officers and founding officers of the Chamber took their oath of office last 13 May 2022 before Ambassador Yap.
“Allow me to express our sincere gratitude to Ambassador Yap for his unwavering support and encouragement to set up the Philippine Chamber in Singapore,” stated PhilChamSG’s founding President, Ms. Cristy Mendoza Vicentina. During the program, she also took the opportunity to invite business and chambers to PhilCham’s first virtual webinar, “An Introduction to Doing Business in the Philippines”, slated on 25 June 2022, from 3 to 4 PM.
The creation of the PhilChamSG is expected to boost trade and investment among the Philippines, Singapore, and ASEAN member states, with the chamber ready to provide information, facilitate connections, and empower joint entrepreneurial success for businesses.- END
