Philippine Embassy in Singapore Celebrates Rizal Day

In commemoration of the 123rd anniversary of Dr.Jose Rizal’s 1896 execution at Bagumbayan, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore held an advance simple ceremony on 13 December 2019 in front of the Jose Rizal marker at the Asian Civilizations Museum.

Ambassador Joseph del Mar Yap delivered his special message on the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal in the context of the narrative of Philippines-Singapore relations, especially as the Embassy concludes the year-long celebration of the Golden Jubilee of their diplomatic relations. “We owe it to Rizal and to many other Filipinos and Singaporeans that came after him to strengthen our relations with Singapore for the next 50 years,” Ambassador Yap added.

Consul J. Anthony A. Reyes then read Rizal’s famous poem, “Last Poem of Rizal” (Mi Ultimo Adios), in its original language, Spanish.

The wreath laying at the Rizal marker was conducted by the Ambassador and assisted by Consul General Adrian Bernie C. Candolada and Vice Consuls Janina Lourdes S. Bustos and  Laarni Zorayda S. Gandarosa.  Consul Gonaranao B. Musor served as emcee.

A simple Filipino breakfast was then served to Embassy officers, staff and the attached agencies at the Chancery.  END
