SINGAPORE ART WEEK 2023 KICKS OFF WITH THE BEST OF SOUTHEAST ASIA AT S.E.A. FOCUS, FILIPINOS AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS

– The 11th edition of Singapore Art Week 2023 (SAW 2023) was held on 6-15 January 2023. It presented an array of over 130 art events featuring new works and playful interventions that transform spaces across the island. 

The ten-day celebration of the visual arts included the launch of the inaugural ART SG. Alongside is the S.E.A Focus, another anchor event for the bigger Singapore Art Week entirely dedicated to contemporary art from the Southeast Asian region in which four (4) Filipino galleries and twelve (12) artists participated, namely, Art Informal, Mono8, Silverlens, and The Drawing Room; showcasing the artworks of Jigger Cruz, Pio Abad, Issay Rodriguez, Patricia Perez Eustaquio, Martha Atienza, Celine Lee, Christina Lopez, Veronica Lazo, Carina Santos, Wawi Navarroza, JC Jacinto, and Manuel Ocampo. Vibrant trapunto paintings by the late Pacita Abad, the artist behind the colorful Alkaff Bridge, were also among the roster of featured artworks.

S.E.A. Focus is a leading showcase and art market hub dedicated to Southeast Asian contemporary art which aims to bring together a fine curation of established and emerging artistic talents to foster a deeper appreciation of contemporary art and artists in the region.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joy Anne B. Lai, attended the opening day of the S.E.A. Focus on 06 January 2023 and had the opportunity to meet Ms. Gwen Bautista, director of Mono8 Gallery, and Ms. Veronica Lazo, who is included in the group feature which responded to the theme of S.E.A.
