PRESS RELEASE

PR-104-2023

(8 September 2023, Singapore) It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing last night, 7 September 2023, of Geothermica, one of the two (2) Philippine Eagles in the Bird Paradise at the Mandai Wild Reserve. He was nineteen (19) years old.

Fondly called “Geo”, the male eagle had been under intensive care in Singapore, receiving the best care possible.

Geo, together with female eagle Sambisig or “Sam”, was transported from the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City to Singapore in 2019 as part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the establishment of Philippines-Singapore bilateral relations.

The pair of critically-endangered Philippine Eagles was loaned under a 10-year renewable conservation breeding loan agreement, the first international Wildlife Loan Agreement for Philippine Eagles, signed between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Singapore’s Mandai Wildlife Group.

The statement by the Mandai Wildlife Group may be found in this link: phinsg.com/pheaglegeo (END).
