(17 April 2024, Singapore) – The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., is in Singapore for an official visit from 17 to 18 April 2024, upon the invitation of Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of the Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). General Brawner is accompanied by Brigadier General (BGEN) Joel M. Paloma PA, BGEN Patriarch Robinson P. Pel PA, Colonel Walter P. Icaro PA (MNSA) and Captain Jerome I. Peñas PA. 

General Brawner Jr. and his delegation were received by Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. Emmanuel R. Fernandez at a courtesy call this morning at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.

The visit of General Brawner to Singapore marks the first time that an AFP Chief of Staff has made an official trip to Singapore for the purpose of engaging high-level officials of the Singapore Ministry of Defence, particularly his Singaporean counterparts; and visiting regional security and defense organizations which are based in Singapore. His visit is in conjunction with the 55th anniversary of Philippines-Singapore diplomatic relations this year.

While in Singapore, General Brawner will pay a courtesy call on Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr. Heng Chee How and visit the Counter-Terrorism Information Facility (CTIF) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Cybersecurity and Information Centre of Excellence at the Changi Naval Base.

The Philippines and Singapore have maintained a strong partnership and cooperation on defense and security since the establishment of their relations on 16 May 1969.  (END)
