PH EMBASSY IN SINGAPORE ENDS MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION OF THE 2022 NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH

PR-019-2022
01 April 2022
– The Philippine Embassy in Singapore ends its celebration of the 2022 National Women’s Month (NWM).

In keeping with the Philippine government’s advocacy for gender equality and women empowerment (GEWE), the Embassy, in partnership with Rated J, an online public affairs program for Filipinos in Singapore, organized an online forum, Karapatan ng Kababaihan sa Pilipinas, last 12 March 2022. Philippine-based lawyer, Atty. Gail Dela Cruz, shared her expertise on the salient provisions of Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women, a landmark law which aims to empower women, uphold women’s rights, and eliminate gender-based discrimination.

Filipino women leaders were also featured in the 13 March 2022 episode of Filcom, Ikaw ang Bida, a weekly online talk show that highlights the stories and advocacies of various Filipino community organizations in Singapore. Co-hosted by Rated J and the Philippine Embassy, the NWM episode put a spotlight on Juanas in Singapore who have made their mark in the city-state. It is hoped that their stories will inspire other Filipino women to believe that they, too, can break barriers in their chosen fields and areas of interests.

To cap the month-long celebration, the Embassy opened on a Sunday, 27 March 2022,  for passport services,  in addition to its once-a-month Sunday consular and labor services, in order to cater to more Filipinos who require passport services, particularly household service workers on their day off.

The Embassy also lent support to 2018 Miss Universe, Ms. Catriona Gray, and her team during the unveiling of Ms. Gray’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds Museum Singapore. Ms. Gray is a well-known champion of children’s rights.

This year’s celebration marks the culmination of the NWM recurring theme since 2017, “WE Make CHANGE Work for Women”.

END.
