PRESS RELEASE

PR-112-2023

26 September 2023, Singapore – To officially mark the start of the Art Trek season, now on its 15th year,  Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig hosted on 23 September 2023 at the Official Residence a viewing of the works of renowned Filipino artist Anita Magsaysay-Ho and visual contemporary artist, Lyra Garcellano. A total of seven pieces produced by the two artists during their respective residencies at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI) were donated by said gallery as part of its continuing engagement with the community towards social good and art appreciation. The exhibit was curated by Mia Marchadesch-Jaranilla who formerly worked at one of the galleries that participated in the inaugural Art Trek back in 2007.

Anita Magsaysay-Ho did her artist-residency in Singapore in 2007 while Lyra Garcellano did hers in 2011.

Established in 2002, STPI is a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting artistic experimentation in the mediums of print and paper. Over the years, it has become one of the most cutting-edge destinations for contemporary art in Asia. STPI sits alongside the National Gallery Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum as part of the Visual Arts Cluster of leading art institutions in the region.

These donated works by the artists now form part of the Philippine Embassy’s permanent art collection.

Among the guests who attended the event were Heads of ASEAN Missions in Singapore, Filipino and Singaporean art collectors, curators, participating artists, and representatives of partner galleries. As part of the expansion of Art Trek to include other forms of expressions in the creative space, guests were treated to performances by the Sari Sari Philippine Kulintang Ensemble, solo piano renditions by the Philippine Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, and by budding pianist and composer, Earl Cornejo.

Food Trek partners – Lechon Republic, Second Serving, Fairprice, Prime Foods Marketing, and Miguelitos –  also provided a gastronomical treat for the guests.
