UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES LOS BAÑOS, UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN INK MOU ON ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH COOPERATION

21 February 2023, SINGAPORE – The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and the University of Saskatchewan (USask) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Academic and Research Cooperation on 20 February 2023 at the High Commision of Canada in Singapore.

The MOU aims to develop research collaboration, pursue academic cooperation, and promote mutual understanding between the two universities in the conduct of collaborative research projects and academic partnership on the identified strategic interests and synergies, namely, agriculture, food security, environment sustainability, planetary health, and climate change.

The signatories of the MOU were Dr. Jose D. Camacho, Jr., Chancellor, UPLB and Dr. Peter Stoicheff, President of the USask. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, UPLB and Ms. Cheryl Hamelin, Vice President, University of Relations of the USask. Also present during the signing ceremony were  Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joy Anne B. Lai from the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and First Secretary and Trade Commissioner Dan Berar, High Commission of Canada.

The Philippine Government, through the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, Canada, has been fostering education cooperation with various universities in Saskatchewan and Alberta as part of its efforts to enhance the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Canada through these initiatives.

The MOU was signed in Singapore on the sidelines of the Canada-in-Asia Conference,  a catalyst in Canada-Asia engagement through extensive people-to-people and institutional linkages across Canada and Asia, which is currently being held from 21 to 23 February 2023. (END)
