FILIPINOS WIN PLAYOFFS FOR 8-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE AMERICAN POOLPLAYERS ASSOCIATION -SINGAPORE (APA) LEAGUE

20 September 2023, Singapore – A Filipino billiards group in Singapore paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Singapore today following their victory  at the Playoffs for 8-Ball Championship of the American Poolplayers Association-Singapore (APA) League held in Singapore on 05 September 2023. 

Led by playing coach, Clarke Kibb Parungao, with members  Allan Casupanan, Nelson de la Peña, Chris Eduard Miraflor, John Owen Nicodemus, Paul Warren Pili, Ernesto Ruiz, Jr., Sherwin Sibal and Ivan Yballe, the group presented their winning trophies to Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig. They were accompanied by Mr. Eddie Rivera, APA-Singapore representative and league coordinator.

The group competed against twelve (12) participating teams of different nationalities across Singapore. As 8-ball Playoffs winners, the team secured a spot at the Championship Round of the APA Summer 2023 League scheduled at the end of this year.

The winners of the Championship Round will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA in 2024 to compete with other champions from different countries at the APA World Pool Championships next year.

Ambassador Macaraig congratulated the Filipino group on their accomplishment and expressed his best wishes on their future competitions. Ambassador Macaraig highlighted that billiards deserves better recognition as this is one sport where both male and female athletes can enjoy the game and play competitively on an even field. He also expressed pride that one of the Embassy’s personnel, Mr. Allan Casupanan, was part of the team. 

The APA is recognized as the world’s largest pool league with various competitions in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Singapore. There are four (4) major pool tournaments each year – the APA Poolplayer Championships, APA Junior Championships, APA World Pool Championships and U.S. Amateur Championships where over USD 2 Million is awarded annually. In 2010, Guinness named the APA World Pool Championships as the World’s Largest Pool Tournament. (END).
