PH EMBASSY IN SINGAPORE CELEBRATES 2022 NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH

PR-015-2022
08 March 2022, Singa
pore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore joins the departments and agencies of the Philippine Government in the observance of the 2022 National Women’s Month (NWM) which runs from 01 to 31 March 2022. The highlight of this month-long commemoration is the International Women’s Day which is celebrated every 8th of March.

This annual celebration provides a venue to recognize the invaluable role and contribution of women in nation-building and national development. From 2017 to 2022, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has adopted the multi-year theme of “WE Make CHANGE Work for Women”. WE stands for Women Empowerment, a call to stakeholders in the government and private sectors to enable women to confidently and meaningfully engage with institutions. WE also refers to “kami/tayo” in Filipino, highlighting that advocacies on gender equality and women empowerment (GEWE) are not solely for and from women, and that all gains toward GEWE will benefit the whole nation.

The 2022 NWM Celebration has the sub-theme Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran, which, in keeping with the upcoming National Local Elections, aims to draw attention to the priority GEWE issues that must be addressed by future public servants.

To this end, the Embassy strongly encourages the Filipino community in Singapore to participate in PCW’s online poll, Pulso Para sa Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran. According to PCW, the poll results can serve as a framework for future elected government officials, private organizations and advocates in crafting GEWE programs, activities, and projects. Interested Juans and Juanas can participate in the poll from 08 to 25 March 2022. PCW will publish the results on 31 March 2022.

Kababayans may visit the 2022 National Women’s Month web page on the PCW’s website to know more about this year’s theme, focus and activities, and join online public fora and threads on GEWE using the hashtags #WomenMakeChange, #JuanaSays, #IWD2022, #IWD, and #AgendaNgKababaihan.

To cap the month-long celebration, the Embassy will be open on 27 March 2022, Sunday, to offer passport services to our kababayans. The details of the Sunday passport services will be shared in the Embassy’s official website, Facebook page, and Instagram account.
