27 February 2023, Singapore – With this year’s theme “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing”, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore celebrated National Arts Month (NAM) this February through month-long activities showcasing the talent and creative skills of Singapore-based Filipino artists through social media postings, art workshop, and a Filipino Community meeting.
The Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Public Diplomacy – Cultural Diplomacy Division (OPCD-CDD) launched a social media campaign highlighting the artworks of the Filipino artists in various Philippine Foreign Service Posts worldwide, by featuring select artworks in the 2023 Juan and Culture Cultural Diplomacy Desk Calendar. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore joined the campaign by nominating two (2) Singapore-based Filipino painters Ms. Precious Nakpil-Lai and Ms. Jasmin Orosa; and featuring the work of a Filipino expatriate in Singapore from 2012 to 2015, Mr. Pierre F. Patricio.
The Embassy also conducted an art workshop for its personnel on 24 February 2023 with Ms. Nakpil-lai as the artist-speaker. A Filipino visual artist and a SPED teacher, Ms. Nakpil-Lai incorporated both her passion and profession to spread self-concept dedicated to her students with special needs and promulgating art as a therapy.
Lastly, Ms. Nakpil-Lai and Ms. Orosa were presented with Certificates of Appreciation signed by DFA-OPCD Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez for sharing their artworks featured in the 2023 Juan and Culture Cultural Diplomacy Desk Calendar. The presentation took place during the Ugnayan, a Filipino Community Leaders’ Meeting held on 26 February 2023 at the Philippine Embassy.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 683 signed by then President Corazon Aquino in 1991, the month of February of every year was declared National Arts Month and the events and activities that take place during this month are geared toward showcasing the artistic talent of Filipinos, as well as providing avenues for artists to channel their creative energies.
