PR-051-2023

20 March 2023, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, in partnership with  the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Singapore, conducted its first Post Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for 2023 on Sunday, 19 March 2023. Held virtually, the seminar, which was also live-streamed on Facebook, was attended by almost a hundred Filipino workers, most of whom were employed in the domestic services sector and have newly arrived in Singapore from the Philippines.

Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig led the Embassy officers in reminding our kababayans on the importance of PAOS and assured them that the Embassy, along with its attached agencies, is ready to provide guidance, assistance and information that could help them while working in Singapore. The Embassy and MWO-Singapore will continue to work together to protect and promote the interests and rights of all Filipino migrant workers in Singapore and to coordinate closely to ensure the seamless turnover of functions and responsibilities of the Embassy’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Section to MWO-Singapore, pursuant to Republic Act 11641 or the Department of Migrant Workers Act of 2021.

Embassy officials who served as resource speakers in the virtual PAOS were Vice Consul Jhullie Anne A. Beniahan, Head of the Assistance-to-Nationals Section;  Vice Consul Renee Gayle M. Chua, Head of Consular Section, MWO Officer-in-Charge and Assistant Labor Attaché Atty. Eduard C. Ferrer; Welfare Officer Marivic C. Clarin; Social Security Services (SSS) Representative Joy-Ann E. Cabading; Pag-IBIG Representative Christian Jan T. Oliveros; Commercial Counselor Atty. Carla Regina P. Grepo and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Capt. Sherwin E. Respeto.

During the PAOS, kababayans in Singapore were informed of the Embassy’s consular and labor services as well as livelihood opportunities, through the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK), which they can avail themselves of. Filipino workers were also reminded to remain vigilant against online scams which continue to proliferate to victimize the public.

PAOS are usually held on a quarterly basis as a means for the Embassy to also remind the Filipino workers to be law-abiding citizens in Singapore and to contribute in raising the bar of our identity in the city-state.

Please stay tuned and follow the Embassy’s and MWO-Singapore’s social media pages for the next schedules of PAOS for 2023. (END).
