Wreath-laying Ceremony at the Rizal Marker in Singapore

30 December 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales led a wreath-laying ceremony today, 30 December 2014, to commemorate the 118th death anniversary of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal at the Rizal marker at the Asian Civilizations Museum greens near the Singapore River.

The marker has been the permanent site of the ceremony every year since it was unveiled in 2008.

The ceremony was attended by officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, representatives of the Filipino community and officials of the Singapore National Heritage Board.

In his message, Ambassador Morales told the audience that “it is it is just timely for us to reflect on the symbolism that he [Rizal] represents in our present circumstances”.

He added that Filipinos abroad can emulate the Philippine national hero who, during his travels, took time to understand the cultures and societies of the places he visited, made friends with the locals and learned from their best practices.

One highlight of the ceremony was the rendition of the “Mi Ultimo Adios” by First Secretary and Consul J. Anthony Reyes who is a member of the Knights of Rizal.

A simple “salu-salo” was held at the Philippine chancery after the wreath-laying ceremony.
