Singapore Business Federation briefing on the Philippines for Investors

sbf201631 August 2016, Singapore – The Singapore Business Federation (www.sbf.org.sg), a business chamber of Singapore-based companies, held an ASEAN Market Insights Seminar focusing on the Philippines. The Philippine Embassy and Philippine Trade and Investment Centre in Singapore were major presenters in the briefing.

The briefing was attended by representatives of over 125 multinational and local companies, comprising members of the SBF, Association of Small and Business Enterprises, Singapore Manufacturing Federation and American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.

Ambassador Antonio A. Morales gave the opening remarks, which briefly touched on the current political situation. Philippine Trade Counsellor Glenn G. Peñaranda briefed on the Philippines’ economic growth indicators, high-growth business sectors, economic activities being prioritized by the Department of Trade and Investment, sectors currently attracting foreign direct investment, rising global competitiveness rankings, among others.

BDO Unibank Vice President Dante Tinga Jr. presented on the Duterte Administration’s economic policy directions and priority business sectors. PricewaterhouseCoopers presented on business and investment opportunities in Metro Cebu, Metro Davao and other high-growth cities. International law firm Reed Smith LLP Counsel Matthew Gorman spoke on legal considerations for setting up a business in PHL.

The profiles of companies represented include banking and finance, engineering services, manufacturing, international law, investment holdings, learning, power, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, value chain logistics, venture capital, among others.
