FILIPINO FILM “IN MY MOTHER’S SKIN” PREMIERS IN SINGAPORE

(16 October 2023, Singapore) – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, along with the personnel of the Philippine Embassy, graced the Prime Videos global premiere and the only in-cinema screening of the Filipino horror film “In My Mother’s Skin” on 12 October 2023 at GVMax Vivocity in Singapore. 

 

Joining the event were representatives of the Singapore Film Society, Amazon Studios, and Clover Films, which organized the activity, as well as the Embassy’s invited guests from the diplomatic corps and the Filipino community in Singapore. 

 

Set during the Second World War, “In My Mother’s Skin”, directed and written by Mr. Kenneth Dagatan and co-produced by the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan, tells the story of a young girl named Tala who, while tending to her dying mother, becomes acquainted with a flesh-eating fairy. It stars Beauty Gonzalez, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Felicity Kyle Napuli and Ronnie Lazaro, among other actors.

 

The film has made a global reach, streaming in over 240 countries around the world via Prime Video’s video-on-demand (VOD) platform following Amazon Studios’ acquisition of worldwide rights to the film; as well as its inclusion in film festivals such as Sundance’s “Midnight” section premiere as the only non-English-language film, and the Sitges Film Festival under Noves Visions.

 

In his remarks prior to the screening, Ambassador Macaraig expressed hope that the screening of “In My Mother’s Skin” could pave the way for  more Filipino films to thrive in Singapore, not only to be appreciated by the Filipino community, but by Singaporeans and expatriates as well.

 

After the film showing, a Q&A session, moderated by Mr. Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society, was held with the film director, Mr Dagatan, joining virtually from Spain; Mr. JX (Huang Junxiang), Producer: Mr. Quark Henares, Head of Originals – Philippines, Amazon Studios, and Mr. Russell Morton, Cinematographer

 

The film highlighted the success of inter-country collaboration of creative sectors, thereby manifesting the strength and synergy of the partnerships as a vehicle to highlight aspects of a country’s culture. END
