(30 December 2021, Singapore) – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap led the officials of the Embassy and its attached agencies  in a simple wreath laying ceremony at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Embassy grounds in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of his martyrdom.

In his remarks for the occasion, Ambassador Yap highlighted the three pillars that best describe the way by which Rizal lived – advancement of science, pursuit for knowledge, and truth.

One of the highlights of the commemoration was a video presentation prepared by the Embassy retracing Dr. Jose Rizal’s footsteps in Singapore, the first foreign country he had ever set foot in on his way to Spain in 1882.

Almost all of the structures and sights that  Rizal saw and visited in Singapore still stand to this day.
