PRESS RELEASE
PR-142-2023
(28 November 2023, Singapore) – To culminate its 2-month long ART Trek15 season, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore unveiled on 22 November 2023 its final ART Trek 15 exhibit entitled “Bridging Horizons: Naval Cultural Exchange Thru Arts,” by Philippine visual artist Kristine Lim and YN2 Numero “Uno” Lim, Councilor of the 2nd District of Manila, who are both Philippine Navy Reservists.
Bridging Horizons: Naval Cultural Exchange Thru Arts,” featured the AMAK Series and the PERLA DE ORIENTE collection, both characterized by Kristine Lim’s distinctive artistic style. These pieces proudly showcase the vibrant colors and symbols associated with the Philippine Navy, including representations such as the Anahaw, Sampaguita, Philippine Eagle, Mangga (leaf), Bangus, and other elements symbolizing the Philippines.
The AMAK Series takes inspiration from the Alangan (of the Mangyans of Mindoro) – a word used to describe the material indigenous people used to make their clothing. Kristine Lim deliberately incorporates this primitive material, crafted from tree bark, as a tribute to the ancestral and traditional tools of diverse Filipino tribes, demonstrating her dedication to preserving and uplifting the creative contributions of indigenous communities often overlooked in contemporary society.
Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig welcomed the guests and provided personal views on art and culture appreciation.
Defense Attaches from various foreign missions in Singapore attended the exhibit. Guests were treated to a song rendition by Embassy talents Liezl Diloy and Christian Oliveros and snacks from one of the Philippines’ leading fast food chains, Jollibee.
Since September 2023, this year’s iteration of the annual ART Trek 15 has featured thirty (30) Filipino and four (4) Singaporean artists, serving as a strong testament to the enduring and multifaceted Philippines-Singapore ties.END.
