PRESS RELEASE

PR-045-2023

27 February 2023, Singapore – Following the announcement of the Government of Singapore to Dorscon Green and its return to normalcy after the pandemic, the Philippine Embassy resumed its in-person Ugnayan meeting with Filipino Community leaders in Singapore on 26 February 2023 at the Embassy of the Philippines in its temporary office at TripleOne Somerset. It has been conducted virtually since 2020.

This was also the first time that the community leaders met Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig after his presentation of credentials to Singapore President Halimah Yacob on 14 February. It also became an avenue to re-introduce the Embassy officials and its attached agencies and a call to reintegrate the Filipino Community organizations in Singapore.

One of the highlights of the recently concluded Ugnayan was to encourage the Filipino community to initiate and lead preparations for the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence, a milestone activity that is fully-supported by the Embassy.

The year 2019 was the last time that the Filipino community meeting was held in-person and Ambassador Macaraig said that it was a good opportunity to resume the vibrant community of Filipinos in Singapore and to hold Pagdiriwang, even on a simple celebration.

The Ugnayan is a platform wherein heads of the  Embassy sections and attached agencies provide updates, announcements as well as upcoming events that are being organized by the Embassy that promotes trade with, tourism to, and investment in the Philippines; raise awareness regarding the Philippines and/or Filipino culture and creative industries; and beneficial services to the Filipinos and protection of Filipino migrant workers’ rights and welfare.

Due to the limited capacity of the public area of the Philippine Embassy, the two-hour meeting was only attended by 55 Filipino Community leaders and live streamed via the Embassy’s official Facebook page. It has so far been viewed 2,800 times as of this writing. (END)
