PH EMBASSY PARTICIPATES IN FAST’s 7th EDUCATION AND HEALTH FAIR FOR MIGRANT DOMESTIC WORKERS

(28 July 2022, Singapore) – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, along with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Office of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), participated in the 7th Education and Health Fair (Edufair) sponsored by Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Social Support and Training (FAST) last Sunday, 24 July 2022, from 11am to 4pm, at the FAST Hub.

The whole day, in-person activity (which was joined in by over 1,126 Migrant Domestic Workers and employers) focused on the health and mental well-being of MDWs, especially during the pandemic. The participating businesses such as Philippine National Bank (PNB) and LBC International, Embassies and High Commissions, and Singapore agencies, occupied 25 booths in total.  They offered training programs; telco, courier, and remittance services; public education efforts on safety and security; and resources awareness, among others. Highlights of the activity included talks on breast cancer awareness by the Breast Cancer Foundation, crime prevention by the Marine Parade Neighbourhood Police, financial planning by Pinoywise SG, general and mental health by Dr. Ida Ismail-Pratt; workshops on mental wellness, flower arrangement and crafts; and a health screening sponsored by Noble Life International Singapore. There was also a free flow of food and drink such as corn in a cup, popcorn, kacang puteh (white nuts) , and bandung (rose syrup with milk) drink.

 

The Philippine Embassy and POLO/OWWA booths provided information and addressed inquiries of Filipino MDWs on their benefits as employees. Upon registration, items were given away courtesy of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO).

FAST is a non-profit organization which promotes social support and skills training for MDWs such as developmental courses, befriending service, counselling service and a 24-hour Helpline for distressed MDWs. The Edufair is one of FAST’s flagship events to encourage MDWs to upgrade themselves through vocational and employability skills training.-END
