(18 July 2023, Singapore) – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore and Sandigan Inc. organized a legal aid clinic on Sunday, 16 July 2023.
Four (4) lawyers, led by Atty. Fatima Lip D. Panontongan of Sandigan Inc, a group of volunteer lawyers committed to providing welfare assistance, including legal counselling, to Filipinos in need, flew to Singapore from Manila to provide free legal assistance services to kababayans in Singapore. They were joined by volunteer Singapore-based Filipino lawyers, and were assisted by Divina Law.
The volunteer lawyers made a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig who briefed the group on the legal problems commonly faced by Filipino nationals in Singapore. He likewise expressed his gratitude to the group for offering their free services to kababayans who have legal concerns in the Philippines
The kababayans who went to the Embassy’s temporary office at 111 Somerset Road to consult with the volunteer lawyers were advised on their concerns related to Philippine criminal and civil laws, as well as received free drafting services for simple legal documents to be used in the Philippines.
The holding of legal aid clinics, a regular program of the Embassy, on top of its once-a-month Sunday consular and labor services, are made possible through sustained partnerships with organizations such as the Sandigan, Inc. and Divina Law. END.
