A piece of one of the Philippines’ most colourful religious celebrations, the feast of Señor Sto. Niño, was brought to Singapore with the “Sinulog” festival held at the Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church (OLPS) at Siglap Road, Singapore, on Sunday, 10 January 2016. Officials of the Philippine Embassy headed by Ambassador Antonio A. Morales, joined hundreds of devotees in the mass followed by a street dancing inside the church’s compound. Bishop Edwin de la Peña, Marawi Prelature, was joined by Fr. Tito Soquiño, Basilica del Sto. Niño of Cebu, Fr. Charlie Oasan, and Fr. Kelly Tan of OLPS in the con-celebrated mass. In his brief remarks, Ambassador Morales thanked the organizers and the devotees for the successful celebration noting that “Sinulog”, which is well-known in many parts of the world, is a true symbol of the Philippines as the only Roman Catholic majority nation in Asia. Ambassador also took the opportunity to encourage Filipinos who have registered for overseas voting to cast their vote early for the May 2016 elections at the Philippine Embassy to avoid the congestion.
