The Philippines, led by DICT Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, participated in the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC) today, 18 October 2023, on the sidelines of the Singapore International Cyber Week. DFA Assistant Secretary for Civilian Security Alan L. Deniega joined Secretary Uy in the conference.

Singapore Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity Ms. Josephine Teo delivered the opening address where she highlighted three ways to improve ASEAN’s collective cybersecurity: (1) strengthening cyber incident response in ASEAN by sharing information and warnings with other regional Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs); (2)  developing technological standards to build confidence among businesses and users; and (3) enhancing capacity building efforts.

Minister Teo also emphasized the need to strengthen cybersecurity cooperation and resilience regionally, as well as establishing a rules-based multilateral order in cyberspace internationally, as key priorities in ASEAN’s digitalisation journey.

Secretary Uy, in his statement during the AMCC, stressed the importance of international cooperation to strengthen cybersecurity. Further, he expounded on the efforts and contributions of the Philippine government, led by the DICT, to a rules-based multilateral order in cyberspace, including the formulation of an updated National Cybersecurity Plan 2023-2028; capacity building initiatives to sustain the country’s cybersecurity talent pipeline; and the launch of tools to secure government online assets and increase the capabilities of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT).
