23 January 2024, Singapore –The Philippines participated in the recently-concluded 12th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) Sherpa Meeting held on 21-23 January at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore.
Senior defense officials, military officials and members of the academe from more than 25 countries exchanged views on topics such as defense diplomacy and emerging technologies.
The Philippine delegation, led by Senior Undersecretary Irineo C. Espino of the Department of National Defense (DND), consisted of officials from the DND and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
On 22 January 2024, Undersecretary Espino delivered a statement on the Sherpa Meeting’s Second Session: Developing New Regional Defense Capabilities and Industrial Partnerships, where he shared the Philippines’ perspectives on the importance of upholding the rule of law in the maritime domain, securing strategic sectors and critical infrastructures from cyber threats, and mitigating the impact of climate change.
The delegation likewise engaged in bilateral discussions with representatives from countries with which the Philippines hold strategic partnerships.
Yesterday, the Philippine delegation was hosted to dinner by H.E. Medardo Macaraig, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore at the Official Residence. (END)
