Philippine Embassy Singapore holds fourth Filipino community leaders meeting

The Philippine Embassy organized the year’s fourth Filipino community (Filcom) meeting in Singapore on Saturday, 16 July 2016, at the public area of the Philippine Chancery along Nassim Road. Almost 100 participants joined the meeting.  Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales conveyed his appreciation to the Filcom leaders for sparing time for the regular gathering, which serves as a forum to discuss issues that matter to the Filcom. The heads of the various sections of the Philippine Embassy and the attached agencies updated the participants on relevant developments in their respective jurisdictions.

The participants were informed of the issuance of the award by the PCA tribunal favoring the Philippines in its arbitration case against China on the South China Sea. The participants were advised not to flaunt the victory and to remain humble following the lead of the Philippine government. Commercial Counsellor Glenn Peñaranda of the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre-Singapore provided his insights on economic opportunities in the Philippines. The Labor Attache, Welfare Officer and the representatives of the Social Security System and Pag-Ibig Fund briefed the participants on the services that their agencies provide for the Filcom. Filcom organizations and other entities also provided updates on their activities. The next Filcom meeting will be held in September 2016.

The meeting was preceded by the “Kapihan sa Embassy” and concluded with a networking lunch, arranged by POLO/OWWA Singapore.
