Official Launch of the 10th Philippine Art Trek on 02 September 2016

The tenth edition of the Philippine Art Trek co-organized by the Philippine Embassy and selected art galleries in Singapore with the support of the Lee Foundation, Keppel Corporation, Philippine Bayanihan Society Singapore (PBSS) and the Singapore Management University (SMU), will be held from August to October this year.

With the objective of promoting deeper cultural understanding through the arts, this year’s Art Trek will again showcase outstanding works of Filipino artists in five (5) galleries in Singapore together with a symposium and photo exhibit by the Pinoygraphers (Singapore).

The symbolic opening of the Art Trek will be held with the launching of the group exhibition, “Bagahe: Art as Remittance,” at the De Suantio Gallery at SMU, 90 Stamford Road at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 2 September 2016, featuring the works of SininGapor, a group of Filipino artists based in Singapore. There will be a talk by NCCA Chairman Felipe de Leon, Jr. after the launching program.  The exhibit by SininGapor will be open to the public until 16 September 2016.

atrk1On 27 August 2016, CDA Victorio Mario M. Dimagiba, Jr. headed the group from the Philippine Embassy in the opening of the first exhibit entitled, Wasak! Reloaded (Group Exhibition of Filipino Art Today) which was hosted in two locations of ARNDT Fine Arts in Gillman Barracks: 9 Lock Road and 47 Malan Road.

During the opening, CDA Dimagiba presented a plaque to Mr. Matthias Arndt for his continued support to the Philippine Art Trek.  After the program,   Mr. Norman Crisologo, Filipino curator, led the guests to a walkthrough of the art works at the two (2) locations.

atrk2The following Filipino artists are featured in the Wasak! Exhibit: Zean Cabangis, Louie Cordero, Jigger Cruz, Marina Cruz, Kawayan De Guia, Alfredo Esquillo, Ian Fabro, Robert Langenegger, Jason Montinola,   Pow Martinez,   Manuel Ocampo,   Norberto Roldan, Kaloy Sanchez, Rodel Tapaya and Ronald Ventura.   The exhibit will run until 08 October 2016.

 The other participating galleries with the corresponding exhibits, artists and run dates are as follows:

  1. Utterly Art, 20B Mosque St., Level 3,  Singapore 059500,  “Empty Houses”, by Mr. Fernando Escora, opening on Thursday (7:00 p.m.), 08 September and will run until 18 September 2016
  2. Di Legno Gallery, 188-6 Tanjong Katong Road, Singapore 436990, “Tales from the Land of 7000 islands”, by Filipino artists: Dexter Sy, Moreen Austria, Jojit  Solano, Cherie A. Bitanga,   Chloe Dellosa,  Patrick B.   Fernandez,  Jayson Tejada, Jonathan Joven,  Amanda Lapus Santos,  Maiya Balboa  and Ben John L.  Albino, from Friday, (6:30 p.m.), 09 September and will run until 11 December 2016
  3. Momentous Arts, 1557 Keppel Road, Block C, #02-11, Singapore 089066, “Beyond Imagery and Meaning”, by Filipino artists, Benjie Torrado Cabrera, Benjie Cabangis, Eman Santos, Pete Jimenez, Reynold dela Cruz, and Rene Robles, opening on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.), 14 September 2016 and will run until 28 September 2016
  4. Artesan Gallery + Studio, Shophouse Five, 5 Lor 24A, Geylang, Singapore, 398535, “Skein”, by Filipino artists: EJ Cabangon, Raffy Napay, Iggy Rodriguez and Pow Marin, opening on Friday (6:30 p.m.), 16 September and will run until 30 September 2016

Filipino group Pinoygraphers will also hold a symposium and photo-exhibit on 30 September 2016, 7:00 p.m.  at the Bayanihan Centre, 43 Pasir Panjang Road.
