31 March 2022, Singapore – Miss Catriona Gray, crowned Miss Universe in 2018, unveiled her wax figure on 30 March 2022, at the Madame Tussauds Singapore in Sentosa.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap, along with key Embassy officials and Filipino community leaders, attended the event to show support for Ms. Gray and her team.
Ms. Gray is the first and only Filipino wax figure in Madame Tussauds Singapore and the third Filipino immortalized by the wax museum after 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and boxing champ, Senator Manny Pacquiao.
Ms. Gray’s wax figure donned a replica of the famous red “lava gown,” a creation of Filipino fashion designer Mak Tumang which drew inspiration from Mayon Volcano in Albay, and the Jojo Bragais shoes that Ms. Gray kept as spare during the competition. This iconic fiery to dark colored red gown had the matching “Three Stars and the Sun” ear cuffs worn by Ms. Gray when she bagged the crown in 2018.
The unveiling was originally scheduled in 2020 in Manila but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. With the recent easing of the border and health restrictions, Filipinos are expected to resume travel to Singapore and include in their itinerary a visit to Madame Tussauds to view the wax figure and participate in the interactive Film and TV experience section. The wax figure will remain for six months in Singapore and then travel to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Bangkok.
The unveiling of a wax figure of Ms. Gray, a Filipina, capped the Women’s Month celebration in Singapore.
