PR-046-2023

(01 March 2023, Singapore) – Days ahead of the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC), which runs from 1 to 31 March 2023, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore conducted a first responder sexual assault and harassment training for Embassy personnel on 25 February 2023 at the Philippine Embassy.

The training, held in partnership with two Singapore-based non-government organizations, the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) and Project X, was organized to enhance the capacity of Embassy frontline personnel in responding to survivors of gender-based violence, in order to minimize the detrimental impact of sexual assault/harassment and to maximize the recovery of the survivors. The training also sought to fulfill the third pillar of Philippine foreign policy, which is to promote and protect the welfare of overseas Filipinos, particularly those who are in distress.

In his opening remarks during the training, Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig highlighted the importance of such capacity-building and upskilling opportunities for Embassy personnel, especially in handling sensitive cases in an adequate, appropriate and timely manner.

The training was organized as the Embassy’s kick-off event to this year’s commemoration of National Women’s Month (NWM). The 2023 NWM theme is “WE for gender equality and inclusive society” which aims, among others, to strengthen gender-responsive government programs and services. END.
