23 September 2021 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap and other Embassy officials, together with Singapore’s Temasek Foundation (TF) executives led by Temasek Foundation International Chief Executive Benedict Cheong, virtually witnessed the turnover ceremony of the latest TF donation to the Senate of the Philippines in support of the Philippines’ disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.
The TF donation comprises of 5,000 multi-purpose cube tents which will be distributed to calamity-stricken communities across the country. The tents are portable, durable, easy to set up, and useful for a wide range of circumstances that Filipino communities may face during natural disasters and other crises.
Other Embassy officials who witnessed the event were Deputy Chief of Mission Adrian Bernie C. Candolada, Third Secretary Joy Anne B. Lai and Mr. Wilford Wong, Chief of Staff of Ambassador Yap. TF was also represented by Mr. Gerald Yeo and Ms. Shirley Tee.
Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho, who turned over the TF donation to Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, underscored the generosity of the Temasek Foundation in its support for communities affected by natural calamities in the Philippines.
Ambassador Yap said that like the previous donations of the Temasek Foundation, this latest batch will go a long way in helping the Philippines respond to the calamities that affect the country on a regular basis.
Ambassador Yap also emphasized that “we will continue to do our best to build and expand our cooperation and collaboration between our two countries as we further strengthen our bilateral ties and friendship for the years to come.”
He also conveyed his gratitude to Senator Zubiri for taking care of the freight and last mile logistics requirement of the multi-purpose cube tent donation.
In accepting the donations on behalf of the Senate of the Philippines, Senator Zubiri expressed his gratitude to the ambassadors of the Philippines and Singapore for facilitating the latest TF donation to the Philippines.
Chief Executive Benedict Cheong said that the donation was in line with Temasek Foundation’s work to support and uplift the lives of the communities in Singapore and in the region. He described the turnover ceremony as a symbol of “the strong cooperation between Temasek Foundation and the Philippines” and a manifestation of “collaboration that goes well beyond Covid-19.”
TF has pledged its continued support and partnership with the Philippines and is open to more opportunities to work together.
Since March 2020, Singapore has been extending generous assistance to the Philippines in the form of test kits, personal protective equipment, ventilators and other high-value medical equipment in support of the Philippine government’s response measures to the Covid-19 pandemic.
