Upon the invitation of the National Gallery Singapore, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, Joseph Del Mar Yap, together with the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy visited the Century of Light exhibit at the National Gallery on 10 January 2018.
Century of Light, which demonstrates painting styles and art movements that developed in 19th century Europe during the post-enlightenment period, features two exhibitions: Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay and Between Worlds: Raden Saleh and Juan Luna. The exhibit will run from 16 November 2017 until 11 March 2018.
Hardly seen masterpieces of Juan Luna such as the España y Filipinas (Spain and the Philippines) and the Les Ignorés (The Unknown Ones), also known as Héroes Anónimos (Anonymous Heroes) were just among the artworks seen by Embassy officers and staff.
After the special tour, an afternoon tea reception was prepared by the National Gallery. During the informal reception, the Embassy and National Gallery officials took the opportunity to discuss collaborative efforts on various cultural projects. END
