PR-031-2022
(14 June 2022, Singapore) In commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador Joseph del Mar Yap, held a flag-raising ceremony on 12 June 2022 at the Philippine Embassy grounds. The event was attended by members of the Filipino community in Singapore and other key Embassy partners.
This year’s Independence Day theme is “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas (Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning).
Ambassador Yap, in his National Day message, encouraged the Filipino community not to forget the lessons that the pandemic has taught us and “to unite to build a new and more resilient post-COVID society that is inclusive and sustainable, with prosperity and mutual benefit for all.” This year’s Independence Day, he added, was a “celebration, of both our national independence from foreign colonial powers, but also, from the scourge of the pandemic”.
He also expressed appreciation for the Filipino community in Singapore which has consistently and tirelessly assisted the Embassy and supported its projects.
Ambassador Yap likewise conveyed his sincerest gratitude to the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy whom he had worked with these past four and a half years. “You have made my job a lot easier with your dedication, commitment, and compassion. These years have opened my eyes to the hardships and challenges of civil service, and I can only hope that our fellow Filipino clients here see and appreciate what I have witnessed for myself all these years,” Ambassador Yap said.
The Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez were read by the officers of the Embassy and its attached agencies.
Around 100 guests partook of the Filipino-style breakfast salu-salo after the flag raising ceremony. (END).
