Display of solidarity now becoming a practice in ASEAN Diplomatic Receptions in Singapore

The familiar holding of hands that is a feature in ASEAN meetings and gatherings is now becoming a practice during diplomatic receptions organized by ASEAN Member States (AMSs) in Singapore. Since the national day reception of Indonesia in August, the official representative of Singapore and AMSs Heads of Mission or their representatives assemble on stage after the exchange of toast to pose for a group photo. The practice was again repeated during the 59th National Day and Armed Forces Day reception of Malaysia at the Shangri-la Hotel on 14 September 2016 and also at the 71st National Day reception of Viet Nam at Orchard Hotel on 20 September 2016 and is expected to continue with national day receptions of AMSs missions in the future. The new phenomenon has been noticed by guests who mostly gave positive comments about such display of ASEAN solidarity.
