8 March 2024, Singapore – Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig welcomed the new Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Singapore, H.E. Alexandre Vital da Cruz Araujo Tilman during the latter’s courtesy call on 7 March 2024 at the former’s Official Residence.
During the call, Ambassador Macaraig and Ambassador Tilman agreed to strengthen Philippines and Timor-Leste’s relations, particularly their people-to-people ties and to enhance two-way economic opportunities for both countries.
Ambassador Tilman expressed appreciation for PH’s support for capacity building and training for many Timorese in the Philippines. He also expressed appreciation for the support and contribution of the Philippines in Timor-Leste’s peace-building efforts through the deployment of Filipino Peacekeeping Forces in Timor-Leste.
Ambassador Macaraig expressed the Philippines’ commitment to support Timor-Leste, Asia’s youngest democracy, in its integration into ASEAN.
Ambassador Tilman presented his credentials to Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 27 February 2024. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Singapore, Ambassador Tilman served as Partnership and Development Financing Officer in the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator’s Office in Timor-Leste.
