Filipino officials participate in Temasek Foundation-Nanyang Polytechnic Food Safety and Technology Project

27 June 2016-On 22 June 2016, Ambassador Antonio A. Morales, First Secretary and Consul Edna May G. Lazaro and Labor Attaché Ramon Tionloc, Jr. were provided with a guided tour of the Nanyang Polytechnic campus by Mr. Foong Tze Foon, Chief Executive Officer of Nanyang Polytechnic International.  During the tour, Mr. Foong introduced the facilities where the Food Safety and Technology training program for officials of the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Health (DOH) are being held.

A total of 120 officials from the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Health (DOH) will participate in the said Program organized by Nanyang Polytechnic International under a grant from the Temasek Foundation. The three (3)-year project consisting of eight (8) programs, aims to provide capability and capacity building to officials and experts from the DOST in the area of food safety and technology.

The Philippine officials will participate in the project organized for the participants at three (3) levels:

  • Forty(40) senior officials and leaders from DOST and Department of Health(DOH) will attend two(2) sets of a one-week Leaders’ Program;
  • Sixty(60) middle management staff from the DOST and DOH will undergo a two(2)-week Managers’ Program; and
  • Sixty (60) specialists will attend a three (3)-week specialist program.

The participants are mainly drawn from the DOST and its agencies including the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development; the Industrial Technology and Development Institute; the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and 17 Regional offices of the DOST, with some participants from the Food and Drug Administration of the DOH.

The training program was organized by the Nanyang Polytechnic International and the Department of Food and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Chemical and Life Sciences.

On another note, Nanyang Polytechnic International is also conducting a program for middle managers of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment.  From May 23 to 03 June 2016, fifteen (15) middle managers from the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) of DOLE and three (3) human resource development managers from the private sector also completed a two(2)-week training program at the Nanyang Polytechnic on Productivity and Innovation in Labour Management.  The training program was likewise conducted under the auspices of NYP International under a grant from the Temasek Foundation which has an existing MOU with DOLE for the advancement of industrial peace.
