Senate President Koko Pimentel meets Filcom leaders in Singapore

The President of the Philippine Senate Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Wednesday, 05 April 2017, met with leaders and representatives of the Filipino community in Singapore in a networking dinner hosted in his honour by Ambassador Antonio A. Morales at the Philippine official residence. Senate President Pimentel and his delegation are stopping by Singapore on their way to Manila from the 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Senate President was joined by other officials of the Philippine Embassy and attached agencies and officials of the Department of Transportation, Department of National Defense, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police who are in town to participate in the ongoing International Exhibition of Homeland Security (MILIPOL Asia-Pacific 2017).

In his address to the audience, Senate President Pimentel called on the members of the Filcom to lend their support to the government of President Rodrigo Duterte in its campaign to bring law and order and good governance in the country. He also encouraged them to bring best practices in other places back to the Philippines.

Prior to his meeting with the Filcom, the Senate President had an audience with the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy Singapore at the chancery along Nassim Road. During the meeting, the Senate President spoke about the legislative priorities of the Philippine Senate including, among others, the proposal to lengthen the validity of the Philippine passport to ten (10) years. He also shared insights about his advocacy on good governance and promoting meritocracy among government employees.

In addition to his meetings with officials and personnel and the Filcom leaders, the Senate President visited and met with officials of the National University of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
