(15 February 2023, Singapore) – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, represented by its Economic Team, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joy Anne B. Lai and Commercial Counselor Carla Regina P. Grepo, attended the Global Space and Technology Convention (GSTC) 2023, together with officials of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), namely, Director General Joel Joseph S. Marciano Jr. and Mr. Fernando de Villa III, Chief of Space Business and Development .
Held from 15-16 February 2023 in Singapore, GSTC is Asia’s Premier Space and Technology event where experts from different regions in Asia come together with the goal of sharing the latest technology news and space technology updates. This year’s convention highlighted application of space technology and satellite communication to various sectors, including crop production, crowd management, humanitarian assistance and relief efforts; and the conduct of further research on space reproduction.
Mr. S. Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, was the event’s Guest-of-Honor. Minister Iswaran, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of the partnership of the private and public sectors in developing the space ecosystem and innovative space-based solutions. He added that on the part of Singapore, it continues to be an active and constructive member of the international space community and banks on its partnerships at the multilateral and bilateral levels.
PhilSA Director General Marciano was a speaker in the panel “Regional Space Agencies’ Dialogue – Encouraging the Adoption of Space – Technologies and Applications through Regional Partnerships, where he and other esteemed experts discussed the role of space technology in advancing a region’s development and competencies. DG Marciano emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing and cooperation especially in disaster response since the impact of such crises does not respect borders.
GSTC draws over 1000 delegates from 30 countries, representing more than 150 organizations. GSTC this year was from 15-16 February 2023. For more information on this year’s conference, visit:
