DepEd Officials in Singapore for 9th ASEAN School Games

Officials of the Philippine Department of Education are in Singapore to lead the Philippine contingent in the 9th ASEAN School Games hosted by Singapore on 14-20 July 2017. The DepEd delegation called on Ambassador Antonio A. Morales and other officials of the Philippine Embassy on 14 July 2017. Ten (10) ASEAN countries are participating – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam – to compete in athletics, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, tenpin bowling and volleyball.  Approximately 1,750 student-athletes, including 159 Filipinos, and officials are participating in the event. As of this writing, the Philippines is at 5th place behind Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, with nine (9) gold, four (4) silver, and eight (8) bronze medals. The Philippine Embassy has encouraged members of the Filipino community in Singapore to come out and extend moral support to the Philippine team.
