12 July 2021 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Joseph del Mar Yap delivered an inspirational speech during the last day of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Singapore Chapter’s (PICE-SG) Virtual Midyear Technical Conference 2021 on 10 July 2021.
The prevailing COVID-19 situation did not disrupt PICE-SG’s celebration of their week-long 10-year anniversary celebration from 05 to 09 July 2021 which adopted the theme “Decade of Engineering Competency and Adaptability towards Diverse Spectrum of Expertise (DECADE).” The event is aligned with PICE-SG’s commitment to provide continuous professional enhancement to Filipino civil engineers through the use of virtual platforms.
Speaking from his vast personal experience in the real estate and development business where he spent more than thirty (30) years of his life before joining government service, Ambassador Yap encouraged the audience to proactively help industries and the economy become more future-proof, and anticipate for disruptions like another global pandemic or catastrophic environmental or climate disasters.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yap underscored the importance of a well-planned and resilient built environment and infrastructure network in enabling economic growth and development. He added that as key practitioners, civil engineers should continue to “re-think, innovate and reengineer to secure our future.”
The virtual midyear technical conference was attended not only by PICE-SG members but also by other Filipino civil engineers in the Philippines and in other parts of the globe. END
