AEROSPACE ENGINEERING FACULTY AND STUDENTS CALL ON PH AMBASSADOR

17 February 2023, Singapore – Dr. Rogel Mari Sese, Chairperson of the Department of Aerospace Engineering led a delegation of part-time professors, and third and fourth year B.S. Aerospace Engineering students from the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), and called on Ambassador  Medardo G. Macaraig on 17 February 2023 at the Philippine Embassy.

The students are in Singapore to participate in the Space Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 2023, a 6-day program which includes a 4-day immersion into the global space industry, giving participants all the fundamentals to build their next space startup, including market insights, business plan development, and an opportunity to pitch to an esteemed panel; and a 2-day all-access pass to the Global Space and Technology Convention (GSTC) – the world’s leading space industry platform.

At the end of the immersion program, participants will have a business plan and pitch deck. Mr. Sukhpreet Singh and Ms. Samantha Ashra Inoc, students from the BS Aerospace Engineering Program of Ateneo de Davao University, along with Mr. John Abiel Villanueva, an alumni and part-time professor of the Aerospace Engineering Department, were part of the team that got selected among the Top 3 best pitches for the final Space Techno pitch. Their team came up with the business pitch entitled SOLARIS: A solar powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

During the call, Ambassador Macaraig shared that space technology is now becoming a trend and Singapore, as a tech hub, is capable of supporting start-ups and R&D for space entrepreneurship through various agencies and institutions.

The students also included in their itinerary a visit to the Nanyang Technological University’s Satellite Research Center while in Singapore.

The AdDU Aerospace Engineering program is the first undergraduate program in the Philippines designed to enable the Philippine Space Agency to better accomplish its mandate of establishing the first Philippine spacecraft launch site in Mindanao (END).
