Filipino cuisine and choral performance showcased at the 2015 ASEAN Gala Night in Singapore

On 26 November 2015, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore featured samples of Filipino cuisine and choral artistry at the 2015 ASEAN Gala Night held at the Indonesian Embassy at Chatsworth Road, Singapore. The Malaysian High Commission spearheaded this year’s annual cultural event coinciding with Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN. As is traditionally done, ASEAN missions put up booths to show the diverse and colourful cultures and culinary specialties that help forge the unique ASEAN identity. The Philippine booth, which was themed with the iconic “bahay kubo” was decorated with, among others, a capiz Christmas parol, life-size displays of the Philippine barong and terno, a Filipino painting and vases carved out from coconut trunks. Bistek Tagalog, chicken adobo, leche flan and the ever-popular halu-halo made up the food display. Another splendid performance by the Singapore-based Filipino group “Vocablends”, capped an otherwise active Philippine presence in the event. A good number of guests from the Philippine Embassy headed by Philippine Ambassador Antonio A. Morales attended the event. The spouse of the Ambassador Shirlene C. Mananquil, First Secretary and Consul of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta was also  on hand to grace the occasion. A number of guests from Philippine Embassy won prizes during the much-anticipated lucky draw of the night. The Philippine Air Lines supported the event by giving out two (2) round trip tickets (SG-PHL-SG) for the lucky draw. Next year’s ASEAN gala event will be handled by the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
