FILIPINO CURATOR OF NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE DISCUSSES FUTURE PROJECTS WITH PH EMBASSY

(25 January 2023, Singapore) Dr. Patrick Flores, currently the Deputy Director for Curatorial and Exhibitions at the National Gallery in Singapore (NGS), met with Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joy Anne B. Lai and Cultural Officer Rosellie L. Bantay of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to discuss the Embassy’s cultural activities planned for this year and the possible entry points through which Dr. Flores may participate and share his expertise in the field of art studies and research.

Dr. Flores is seconded by the University of the Philippines to the NGS, one of the leading visual arts institutions which oversee the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art. 

Dr. Flores served as the artistic director of Singapore Biennale 2019. He had also been serving as curator of the Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center of the University of the Philippines, where he is a professor of art studies, which unit he chaired from 1997 to 2003. He curated several outstanding shows in the Philippines and overseas and helped write and edit several art books on the life of Purita Kalaw-Ledesma, arguably the mother of Philippine modern art; and Andres Barrioquinto, one of the most sought-after contemporary artists today in Southeast Asia.
