1 February 2020- The Sentro Rizal in Singapore, in collaboration with the Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM), successfully organized a public lecture by Prof. Ambeth Ocampo entitled Rizal in Singapore: The Hero as Traveller” at the Ngee Ann Auditorium of the Asian Civilizations Museum.

Prof. Ocampo, an internationally renowned historian, Rizal expert, author and columnist, traced Jose Rizal’s steps during his at least four (4) stop-overs in Singapore on his way to Europe.  Rizal is believed to have been shaped by his exposure to other lands, peoples, tongues and cultures. The lecture gave an opportunity for Filipinos to look back and understand the hero and our nation.

Ambassador Joseph del Mar Yap in his opening remarks expressed the hope that Filipinos and Singaporeans would be inspired after the talk to retrace the steps of Rizal in Singapore.

The lecture is part of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of PH-SG relations by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and its first cultural diplomacy event for 2020. END
