(5 June 2023, Singapore) The Philippine Embassy in Singapore and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS)-Yusof Ishak Institute signed today the Deed of Donation on the Philippine Studies Program Grant for the ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute.
The Philippine Studies Project at ISEAS is a multi-year initiative under the Regional Political and Studies Programme (RSPS) to enhance ISEAS research on the Philippines. It runs from June 2019 to December 2023. Following the signing today, the project will be extended for another three years, which will be until June 2026, to cover social, economic, and cultural issues.
The said project is one of the flagship programs supported by the Philippine Congress and championed by Senator Loren Legarda to support the cultural diplomacy thrust of the Department of Foreign Affairs in forging academic cooperation agreements with various international institutes and universities through academic exchanges.
The Donation Agreement was signed at the ISEAS office by Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig and Dr. Choi Shing Kwok, Director and Chief Executive Officer of ISEAS. Senator Loren Legarda and Dr. Terence Chong, ISEAS Deputy CEO and Director, witnessed the signing ceremony.
Dr. Choi presented an overview of the Institute prior to the ceremony. Ambassador Macaraig and Senator Legarda were also given a brief tour of the ISEAS Library and Publishing where books and publications about the Philippines are available.
