PH EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR THAILAND’S APEC CHAIRMANSHIP IN 2022

(11 February 2022, Singapore) Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Joseph del Mar Yap expressed the Philippines’ support to Thailand, the chair of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for 2022, during the courtesy call on 8 February 2022 by Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat in Singapore.

Dr. Sta. Maria provided the Ambassador with updates on the priorities of Thailand for its year-long APEC chairmanship, as well as APEC’s activities for the 2022. According to Dr. Sta Maria, Thailand’s 2022 priorities for APEC, with the theme “OPEN.CONNECT.BALANCE” will lead APEC member economies towards being open to all opportunities, connected in all dimensions, and balanced in all aspects. Thailand also plans to chart a post-COVID-19 future for the Asia-Pacific region through promoting long-term growth that is resilient, inclusive, balanced and sustainable.

APEC is a regional economic forum established in 1989 to leverage the growing interdependence of the Asia-Pacific. Its 21 member economies aim to create greater prosperity for the people of the region by promoting balanced, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and secure growth and by accelerating regional economic integration. The Philippines became an APEC member in November 1989. (END).
