PROLIFERATION OF FAKE NEWS
ADVISORY TO FILIPINO NATIONALS IN SINGAPORE
The Philippine Embassy would like to inform the Filipino Community that it received numerous reports on death of Filipino nationals in Singapore which later turned out to be fake news.
The said unverified information usually goes viral on various social media platforms, and spread intentionally by hackers of personal social media accounts of our kababayans.
In view thereof, the Filipino Community in Singapore is requested to exercise extreme caution in spreading unverified news especially online, which can cause tremendous trauma to the next-of-kin of our victimized kababayan.
Filipinos are also requested to safeguard their online accounts by strictly observing security protocols such as constantly changing their passwords, refraining from using free online domains for private transactions or by employing additional account verification.
To avoid conflict online, the Embassy also encourages the Filipino Community to exercise proper social media etiquette.
The Embassy also takes this opportunity to assure the public that any concern involving the demise of Filipinos in Singapore is expeditiously addressed by both the Philippine Embassy and Singapore authorities.
Thank you.
