(22 March 2022, Singapore) – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the National University of Singapore – Office of Alumni Relations (NUS-OAR), successfully held a film showing on 17 March 2022  featuring the movie “Write About Love” at the NUS’ Shaw Foundation Alumni Theater.

The feature film “Write About Love” was released in the Philippines on 25 December 2019 as one of the eight official entries to the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it bagged four (4) major awards such as Best Screenplay, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Special Jury Prize.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Joseph del Mar Yap graced the film screening hosted by Director Bernard Toh of the NUS-OAR. FDCP Chair Mary Liza Diño and Director Crisanto Aquino gave their messages through pre-recorded video. Also in attendance were Embassy officials, NUS alumni, and members of the Filipino community in Singapore.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yap thanked the Embassy partners, the NUS-OAR and FDCP, for making the event possible after being postponed twice in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. “It is the partnership and collaboration of institutions, organizations, and individuals that make the relationships between Singapore and the Philippines, and the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community meaningful, strong, and vibrant,” the Ambassador said.

Director Toh, who wore a Barong Tagalog during the event, expressed his delight over the resumption of the film showing at the NUS-OAR, which was only the second since the inaugural event in 2019 which celebrated the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore.

The screening of “Write About Love” was made possible through the FDCP’s  Philippine Embassies Assistance Program (PEAP) which encourages Philippine diplomatic missions to organize film-related cultural activities so that overseas Filipinos and foreigners can discover and appreciate Philippine cinema.

The Feature Film Showing was a fully-vaccinated event and health protocols were strictly observed inside the theater with only a 100-seat capacity. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore is hopeful to have bigger, in-person events this coming year.
