SINGAPORE 26 October 2021 – The Philippines and Singapore signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technological Cooperation through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) on 25 October 2021.
The initial fields of cooperation that the parties have identified under the MOU are water and waste management, food safety and security, digital government transformation, and aquaculture, which are also among the key action points of the 5th Informal Consultations on the Philippines-Singapore Action Plan held last 14 July 2021. The MOU likewise aims to collaborate with the private sector for a more inclusive and successful program conceptualization and implementation.
The signatories of the MOU were DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña and SCE Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kong Wy Mun. Also present during the event was Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap joined the virtual signing ceremony. In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Yap underscored that the MOU is a welcome reminder of the close relationship and mutual understanding and respect that the Philippines and Singapore have enjoyed throughout these years.
DOST is the Philippine government department primarily tasked with promoting, assisting and undertaking scientific and technological research activities in the country. On the other hand, the SCE is a Singapore government agency tasked to lead public sector collaboration projects with foreign governments. It is a subsidiary of Enterprise Singapore which is under the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry.
