13 January 2023, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy attended the inaugural Food Tech 2023 held on Friday, 13 January 2023 at One Farrer Hotel. The event showcased Singapore Manufacturing Federation’s efforts in supporting the emerging food technology manufacturing industry which plays a vital role in ensuring food security and uninterrupted supply chain in Singapore. The event covered three themes, namely, food trends, food safety, and the launch of Singapore Standard SS 687 : 2022 Guidelines for Food E-commerce.
With the integration of local industry standards in the processes of companies like Foodpanda and Lazada, which have a presence in the Philippines, adoption of these guidelines in the country is expected. This, in turn, will increase confidence and enhance consumer experience with the platform. The implementation of the guidelines also aims to provide a clearer delineation of accountabilities among the stakeholders, namely, the e-commerce platform companies, food delivery platforms, and supermarket retailers.
The event’s Guest-of-Honor, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Ms. Grace Fu, touched upon the food industry transformation, highlighted the importance of advancement in farming technology to maximize space, reduce resources, and increase productivity, and emphasized the vital role of food e-commerce to attain the goals of food security. After her speech, she visited the exhibit on various food innovations such as cell-based meats and seafood, healthier food substitutes, and other laboratory-based food products.(END).
