SINGAPORE, 17 August 2026 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig warmly welcomed Ambassador Jessica María López Piña of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela during a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on 14 August 2026.

The two Ambassadors exchanged views on the historical and cultural ties between the Philippines and Venezuela, highlighting their shared links with Latin America and the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade.

They also discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation in trade and energy, alongside Venezuela’s renewed engagement with the region.

Ambassador López Piña shared Venezuela’s plans to deepen cooperation with ASEAN and expressed interest in pursuing high-level exchanges with the Philippines. Ambassador Macaraig welcomed Venezuela’s renewed interest in the region and conveyed the Philippines’ openness to sustained dialogue and practical cooperation.

On a lighter note, the Ambassadors noted the shared enthusiasm of Filipinos and Venezuelans for beauty pageants, which have helped foster cultural appreciation and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The Philippines and Venezuela established diplomatic relations on 27 August 1968. (END)
